Shaft alignment in potentially explosive areas

XT550 Shaft EX

Built for safe and precise shaft alignment in potentially explosive environments (Zone 1/21). It has all the programs and functions you need to keep your machines up and running.

  • Align the machine
  • Check base twist
  • Check bearing play
  • Check soft foot
  • Document and share the results

EX/ATEX compliant measuring units

With the XT550, you can align horizontal and vertical/flange-mounted machines with ease and accuracy – even in hazardous areas. The intrinsically safe design of the measuring units complies with EX/ATEX standards*. The system features soft foot check, tolerance verification to ensure alignment quality, and functions for thermal growth compensation. It also includes a program for checking twist of machine foundation

By adding accessories, the system can also:

  • Align cardan shafts

*The XT50 measuring units are EX approved which means they comply with the Essential Health and Safety Requirements relating to the design of products intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.

Key strengths of XT550 Shaft EX

Intrinsically safe

The measuring units are certified for use in explosive environments (Zone 1/21).

Dot laser technology

For high accuracy and versatility.

Rugged design

Designed for harsh industrial environments (IP66 and 67).

Automatic documentation

A report is automatically generated in PDF and Excel format.

Multi-platform compatibility

Works with the industrial-grade Easy-Laser display unit or most iOS/Android devices.

Features

The programs below are the most commonly used with this system.

Horizontal machines
Horizontal machines

The user interface is intuitive and guide you through the measurement process. It is animated and zooms into the most important things for each step. You can save the measurements of a machine for As found and As left in the same file.

Vertical/flange mounted machines
Vertical/flange mounted machines

For measurement and alignment of vertically and flange mounted machines.

Machine train
Machine train

Build your own machine train with theoretically as many machines as you like. You can pick the reference machine manually, or let the program choose one that will minimize the need for adjustments.

Cardan/offset mounted machines
Cardan/offset mounted machines

For alignment of cardan/offset mounted machinery. (Requires additional Cardan bracket kit.)

Soft foot check
Soft foot check

Alignment work begins with a soft foot check. The soft foot check ensures that the machine is resting evenly on all its feet by indicating which foot/feet should be adjusted. This is an important part of securing a reliable alignment. After the soft foot check is complete, you can go directly to the alignment program with all of the machine’s distance values saved.

Twist measurement
Twist measurement

Program to measure flatness/twist of, for example, machine foundation, machine tables, etc.

Values – Shaft alignment applications
Values – Shaft alignment applications

Use the M and S measuring units included to measure as with digital dial gauges, but with laser precision and the possibility to document the measurement result. Another application is to check shaft radial play (bearing play).

9-12-3
9-12-3

Measurement points are recorded at fixed points 9, 12 and 3 o’clock. This is the classic three-point method which can be used in most cases. The preferred method for situations where the machine to be aligned is mounted on a moving object, and it is not possible to use the inclinometers (e.g., on ships, cranes, wind turbines etc.).

EasyTurn™
EasyTurn™

Ideal method for coupled machines where you manually rotate the shafts to any position. The EasyTurn™ function allows you to begin the measurement process from anywhere on the turn. You can turn the shaft to any three positions with as little as 20° between each position to register the measurement values. An easier-to-use version of the three-point method (see 9–12–3).

Continuous sweep
Continuous sweep

Automatic recording of measurement values during continuous sweeping of the shaft. The easiest and quickest way to obtain the alignment status on coupled machines. Hundreds of points are registered. Start recording, rotate, and stop at any angle and you get the results instantly. Quality check of measurement is provided.

Multi point
Multi point

Multi point is basically the same as EasyTurn™, but instead you can record multiple points on the sector rotated. This will provide an optimized calculation basis. Perfect for e.g. turbine and sliding bearing applications.

Uncoupled sweep
Uncoupled sweep

Used when the machines are uncoupled and when the rotation can be difficult to control. Rotate one shaft/unit at a time to pass with the beam over the other (stationary). Repeat alternately until enough measurement points are recorded. You can start and stop anywhere on the turn. Use it for big heavy machinery like gas turbines, wind turbines or gear boxes which can be difficult to rotate to a specific position.

Of the ten billion ball bearings being manufactured every year, nine billion will outlive the machine.
